Service management

Complete the dae configuration first, then choose your service manager. The sudo tab is selected by default.

Choose the action you need; these are not sequential steps.

Start now and enable at boot

shell
sudo systemctl enable --now dae
shell
systemctl enable --now dae
shell
sudo rc-service dae start
sudo rc-update add dae default
shell
rc-service dae start
rc-update add dae default

Start now

shell
sudo systemctl start dae
shell
systemctl start dae
shell
sudo rc-service dae start
shell
rc-service dae start

Enable at boot

Enabling the service at boot does not start it immediately.

shell
sudo systemctl enable dae
shell
systemctl enable dae
shell
sudo rc-update add dae default
shell
rc-update add dae default

Reload configuration

After editing the configuration file, reload the running dae service.

The OpenRC service script does not define a reload action. Use dae’s built-in reload command while the service is running.

shell
sudo systemctl reload dae
shell
systemctl reload dae
shell
sudo dae reload
shell
dae reload

Restart the service

Restart stops and starts dae, interrupting existing connections. To apply configuration changes, use reload above.

shell
sudo systemctl restart dae
shell
systemctl restart dae
shell
sudo rc-service dae restart
shell
rc-service dae restart

Verify the service

After starting, check that dae is running. systemd prints active; OpenRC reports status: started.

shell
sudo systemctl is-active dae
shell
systemctl is-active dae
shell
sudo rc-service dae status
shell
rc-service dae status

If systemd does not print active, read the last 50 journal lines of this boot:

shell
sudo journalctl -u dae -b -n 50 --no-pager
shell
journalctl -u dae -b -n 50 --no-pager
