Debian / Ubuntu
Install honk from the Dae Universe repository on Debian, Ubuntu and other APT-based distributions.
Use the sudo tab if sudo is configured for your account. Use the root tab when already in a root shell.
These steps need systemd and Linux 6.12 or later. Check the kernel version with uname -r; the kernel requirements list the rest.
1. Install curl
sh
sudo apt update
sudo apt install curlsh
apt update
apt install curl2. Add the repository
Download the source file, a plain deb822 file that APT has read since version 1.1.
sh
sudo curl -fsSL -o /etc/apt/sources.list.d/daeuniverse.sources https://daeuniverse.pages.dev/daeuniverse.sourcessh
curl -fsSL -o /etc/apt/sources.list.d/daeuniverse.sources https://daeuniverse.pages.dev/daeuniverse.sources3. Import the GPG key
sh
sudo curl -fsSL -o /usr/share/keyrings/daeuniverse-archive-goose.gpg https://daeuniverse.pages.dev/daeuniverse-archive-goose.gpgsh
curl -fsSL -o /usr/share/keyrings/daeuniverse-archive-goose.gpg https://daeuniverse.pages.dev/daeuniverse-archive-goose.gpg4. Install honk
sh
sudo apt update
sudo apt install honksh
apt update
apt install honkContinue with First run.
Upgrade
Upgrade the package, then restart honk and check its status. The package hook only reloads systemd unit definitions; it does not restart the running process.
sh
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade honk
sudo systemctl restart honk.service
sudo systemctl status honk.service --no-pagersh
apt update && apt install --only-upgrade honk
systemctl restart honk.service
systemctl status honk.service --no-pagerUninstall
sh
sudo systemctl disable --now honk.service
sudo apt remove honksh
systemctl disable --now honk.service
apt remove honkThe configuration directory /etc/honk and runtime state directory /var/lib/honk remain on the host. If you changed data_dir, that directory also remains.
