Fedora / RHEL

Install honk from the Dae Universe repository on Fedora or RHEL.

Use the sudo tab if sudo is configured for your account. Use the root tab when already in a root shell.

These steps need systemd and Linux 6.12 or later. Check the kernel version with uname -r; the kernel requirements list the rest.

1. Add the repository

Install curl if the system does not have it yet.

sh
sudo dnf install curl
sh
dnf install curl

The repository configuration file includes the GPG key address. DNF asks to import the key the first time it is used.

sh
sudo curl -fsSL -o /etc/yum.repos.d/daeuniverse.repo https://daeuniverse.pages.dev/daeuniverse.repo
sh
curl -fsSL -o /etc/yum.repos.d/daeuniverse.repo https://daeuniverse.pages.dev/daeuniverse.repo

2. Install honk

sh
sudo dnf install honk
sh
dnf install honk

Continue with First run.

Upgrade

Upgrade the package, then restart honk and check its status. The package hook only reloads systemd unit definitions; it does not restart the running process.

sh
sudo dnf upgrade honk
sudo systemctl restart honk.service
sudo systemctl status honk.service --no-pager
sh
dnf upgrade honk
systemctl restart honk.service
systemctl status honk.service --no-pager

Uninstall

sh
sudo systemctl disable --now honk.service
sudo dnf remove honk
sh
systemctl disable --now honk.service
dnf remove honk

The configuration directory /etc/honk and runtime state directory /var/lib/honk remain on the host. If you changed data_dir, that directory also remains.
